In our fast-paced world of consumerism, Cyber Monday stands out as a beacon of bargains and online shopping extravagance. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of discounted gadgets, fashion, and other shiny new things. People all around the world eagerly scour virtual aisles with the hopes of acquiring coveted items at a fraction of their usual costs.

As an audio engineer, integrated systems designer, and electric car enthusiast, I understand the excitement around new technologies.  I’m always keen to dive into the latest tech and am frequently an early adopter of industry-changing products. I don’t know about you, but I am enticed by slick ads from the colossal Silicon Valley tech company which elegantly depict their latest device; this is generally followed by a sudden awareness of the “need” to replace my perfectly adequate device with the shiny new model.  And it’s on sale!

However, amidst the frenzy of virtual sales, it’s essential to heed the biblical wisdom from Matthew 6 that reminds us, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” This insight encourages reflection on the true priorities in our lives. While the allure of Cyber Monday may lead us to amass material treasures, it’s crucial to consider where lasting fulfillment and purpose are found.

As we indulge in the excitement of online shopping, let’s take a moment to contemplate the lasting value of our pursuits. How do our digital carts represent our desires? Are our treasures merely confined to the tangible goods we acquire, or do they extend to the relationships, experiences, and meaningful endeavours that enrich our lives and build eternal value?

Cyber Monday can be a good opportunity to score some deals on necessary things, but before indulging in new tech, I am going to consider a new question: where is my treasure?  I’m looking forward to making some solid investments in intangible treasures that truly define my purpose.

God, even though I get distracted by other things, thank you for always being present in my life. May all the desires of my heart continue to reflect your love.
