Presence Creative Arts was very excited to present a unique cinematic Immersive Encounter, inspired by the extraordinary journey of King David and the awe-inspiring terrain of Northern Scotland.
This past weekend at the Gideon Film Festival located just outside of Nashville, TN, this curated experience invited participants to reflect on their own story through the incredibly relevant themes found in King David’s life. This Immersive Encounter featured sound, moving images, text, reflection and spiritual practice through eight immersive stations.
The Immersive Encounter is being developed out of PCA’s forthcoming contemplative film with the working title The Shepherd and The Sound, and reimagined for a participatory gallery format.
Here are some of the reactions from those who participated in this debut event:
“This was very personal, I didn’t even want to share the moment with my wife. Just me and my God. For though in solitude, still I am never alone.”
“Truly all we need is found in the Psalms. David is foundational to our collective journeys as humans, in reflection of his grand failures and in reflection of his faith. The immersive is well done. Godspeed.”
Author Mark Buchanan gave high praise for this film about the life of David.
“Jason has dug down to the deepest, richest seams of David’s story and come back up into daylight with fistfuls – nay, armloads – of treasure, with rare finds only forged from great heat and great time and great pressure. And then he’s crafted all of it so that, from one angle, it looks like a crown of thorns, from another, a crown of glory.
The whole thing altogether is stunning: a recreation, more incarnation than performance, of David then and David now. You don’t need to know the story well, or even at all, to get swept up in its power. But it is impossible to watch this without having some visceral response, to feel in your bones and gut and heart that the ancient past is being pulled into this very moment, and it names you, and calls you, and, if you’ll let it, heals you. This isn’t a normal film. This is the ruach, the breath of God.”
Mark Buchanan, Award-Winning author of The David Trilogy (David: Rise, David: Reign, David: Descend)
The Shepherd and The Sound is currently finishing up the post-production phase. The Immersive Encounter is currently available for booking.
